On the 4th of March 1972 Stoke lifted the League Cup, the first major trophy in their history, by beating favourites Chelsea 2-1 with a deciding goal from George Eastham. A great performance from England goalkeeping legend Gordon Banks kept Chelsea at bay after going 2-1 up to secure an historic win.
