The 1961 European Cup Final was held in Bern, Switzerland on 31st May 1961, and saw Benfica take on favourites Barcelona. Benfica, appearing in their first European final, lifted the trophy, winning 3–2 thanks to a goal from Portuguese international Mário Coluna netting the underdogs' third goal, in the 55th minute.
