In 2000 Gillingham & Wigan were competing for promotion to the second tier of the English football league, a level which neither club had ever previously reached. Going 2-1 down in extra-time, Steve Butler & Andy Thomson scored within 5 minutes of each other, turned the game on it's head. The Gills held out for the victory, going into the Division 1 for the first time in their history.
