The 1988 League cup final was Town's first major cup victory; their manager Ray Harford, later described it as the greatest win in his time at the club. Although Arsenal entered the match as heavy favourites, Luton's disciplined approach, coupled with a strong performance by goalkeeper, Andy Dibble, contained Arsenal to few chances throughout the game. Arsenal took a 2-1 lead, but Luton came back and Stein scored in the 90th minute to complete a famous victory.
