Sheff Utd had never left the two automatic places in the Championship all season, and sealed promotion after beating Cardiff 1-0 on Good Friday. Neil Warnock, who was famed for gaining promotions, helping United to achieve a second place finish, pipped by champions Reading, who won the league convincingly. Notable performances came from Chris Morgan and Phil Jagielka who allowed The Blades to have the second best goal difference in the division.
